Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said in Sūrat al-Isrāʾ: ﴿إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ﴾ (“Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most upright”).[1] “Aqwam” comes from qiyām and qawām, meaning without any crookedness. And the Qur'an guides people who want guidance and who seek, through it, the bounty of Allah, Glory be to Him.

Then he said: the equation is not like this; rather: ﴿مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ الْعَاجِلَةَ عَجَّلْنَا لَهُ﴾ (“Whoever desires the immediate, We hasten for him”), while whoever desires the Hereafter, Allah, Glory be to Him, grants him from it.[2]

It Is Not Your Size Right Now

He gave an example from daily life: the salesman tells you that your size may be 44, and you say: no, 46. Then you are told: this number speaks of length, not width, and it will come out far too long on you. So you keep piling on bigger numbers, and that is that, even if there is harm in them.

Then he said: and sometimes we ask the Lord of the worlds, Glory be to Him, for bigger numbers, and the answer is: this is not your size right now, so calm down a little, grow up after some time, and then take a bigger size. Glory be to Allah! Man is hasty.[3]

We ask Allah, Glory be to Him, for guidance, O Lord of the worlds, and that He keep us firm on the straight path and make us dutiful toward ourselves, our families, and the entire Ummah.

--- [1]: Editor's documentation: Sūrat al-Isrāʾ (17:9); it is recorded only as far as the speaker uttered it. [2]: Editor's documentation: He appears to be referring to al-Isrāʾ (17:18–19), but the transcript is garbled at this point, so the verse has not been completed. [3]: Editor's documentation: The phrase heard is “khuliqa al-insānu ʿajūl” (“man was created hasty”), which corresponds to His saying, Exalted, in al-Anbiyāʾ (21:37): ﴿خُلِقَ الْإِنسَانُ مِنْ عَجَلٍ﴾ (“Man was created of haste”); citing it here is probable, not certain.
